spiritual life/Online — Fall 2016

Fall 2016 issue of spiritual life/Online now available

By Edward O’Donnell, OCD, Editor

Today in Rome, Mother Teresa of Calcutta was canonized a saint. Her works of charity are known all throughout the world. Her saintly work of caring for the poor and abandoned is an inspiration to all of us, and her canonization proclaims to all the world the heroic life of charity that she lived.

Less known is the life of dark faith that Mother Teresa lived for many years. She struggled in darkness, on the edge of despair, like her namesake, Thérèse of Lisieux. Our article by Keith Egan masterfully walks with Mother Teresa in her darkness, showing how the Carmelite mystic John of the Cross may have helped her in her suffering. You will appreciate his insights into Mother Teresa’s heroic life of the spirit.

Let us be messengers of mercy in our world!
