Angelo Paoli (1 September 1642 – 20 January 1720) – born Francesco – was an Italian Roman Catholic priest and a professed member of the Carmelite Order. Paoli led a life steeped in silence, prayer and mortification, but, above all, he was know for focusing his life on works of charity — both spiritual and corporal — in favor of the sick and the poor.
Born in the town of Trino in northern Italy about the middle of the fifteenth century, Archangela took the Carmelite habit in Parma and eventually became the prioress there. She held the same office in the new monastery at Mantua, where she died in 1495. She bore a special devotion to the Holy Trinity.
Bl Candelaria was born Susana Paz-Castillo Ramírez in 1863 in Guárico, Venezuela. She enthusiastically welcomed the call of God to holiness, and from her youth, stood out in living a life of effective charity. She cared for, consoled, and healed the sick and the wounded that had been abandoned on the streets of her birth city.
Marie-Eugene de L'Enfant-Jésus (2 December 1894 - 27 March 1967) — born Henri Grialou — was a French Roman Catholic priest and a professed member of the Discalced Carmelites. Fr. Marie-Eugene held several positions of leadership within his Order and traveled extensively to oversee different Carmelite convents and monasteries across the world.
Born in Aytona, Lerida, on December 29, 1811, Blessed Francis Palau y Quer entered the Carmelite Order in 1832 and was ordained priest in 1836. Civil turmoil forced him to live in exile and outside his community. On his return to Spain in 1851, he founded his "School of Virtue" — which was a model of catechetical teaching — at Barcelona.
Maria Barba was born on the 16th January 1884 in Catanzaro, Italy. As a child, Maria learned to play the piano. At the age of fifteen, she underwent an interior conversion that turned her heart and mind totally to God. Sadly, her subsequent aspiration to religious life was opposed by her family.
Born in Mantua on April 17, 1447, as a youth Baptist joined the Carmelites of the Congregation of Mantua at Ferrara. He made his religious profession in 1464 and served in many positions of responsibility in the community; he was vicar general of his congregation six times, and in 1513 was elected prior general of the whole Order.
Born in Erice near Trapani in Sicily about the middle of the 15th century. Aloysius joined the Carmelites and became prior of the reformed convent in Randazzo. There he died in 1490 from a head wound, forgiving his attacker and refusing to reveal his identity.
Anne of Saint Bartholomew was born Ana García Manzanas in Almendral, a village in Castile, Spain. At the age of 21, she joined the newly founded discalced Carmelite monastery in Avila and became a companion to Saint Teresa of Ávila. Anne led the establishment of new monasteries in France and the Netherlands.
Hilary Januszewski was born on 11 June 1907 in Krajenki (Poland). In 1927 he entered the Order of Carmel and was ordained a priest on 15 July 1934. On 1 November 1939, Fr. Eliseus Sánchez-Paredes, Provincial, appointed him prior of the community. At that time, Poland had already been occupied by the Germans a few weeks earlier.
